Body-Worn Cameras for Detectives & Investigators

Course Description

Discover why body-worn cameras are becoming essential for detectives and investigators, and no longer just for patrol. This course will guide you through the evolving role of BWCs in investigative work and what your agency should consider before implementation. This course contains four modules to help you apply what you’ve learned and strengthen your understanding every step of the way.  - Module 1 - The Rationale for BWCs in Investigations: Why investigative units should adopt BWCs, with real-world incidents, research-backed justifications, and tailored messaging for detectives, supervisors, and command staff. - Module 2 - Supervision, Oversight, and Investigative Integrity: How investigative unit supervisors guide BWC use through coaching, audits, and implementation logistics—reinforcing professionalism and accountability. - Module 3 - BWCs as Evidence – Working with Prosecutors:  How BWC footage supports case building, courtroom strategy, and prosecutor collaboration—reducing reliance on memory and disputed testimony. - Module 4 - Executive Considerations – Transparency, Sharing, and Policy: How command staff and legal advisors design scalable, defensible policies, manage public release, coordinate across agencies, and the role of detectives/investigators in doing so This course is right for you, if you are: 1. A detective or investigator, 2. An investigation unit supervisor or a member of command staff, 3. A prosecutor or legal advisor working with investigations units, or 4. A policymaker or training coordinator shaping BWC protocols.
