Preparing for Implementation: BWC Policy Basics is a self-paced course for law enforcement professionals, agency leaders, and policymakers preparing to implement or refine body-worn camera (BWC) programs. Developed by Justice & Security Strategies, Inc., this program provides essential knowledge and practical strategies to guide agencies through the early stages of BWC adoption. Participants will explore foundational elements of policy development, including legal considerations, privacy, and operational best practices. The course emphasizes creating clear, effective policies that balance transparency, accountability, and officer safety. This module focuses on policy considerations for a BWC program, helping agencies develop comprehensive guidance that sets clear expectations for officers and supports successful implementation. By the end of this course, you will be able to: 1. Discover various language considerations for a comprehensive BWC policy 2. Determine proper procedures for activating and deactivating BWCs. 3. Identify the best methods for informing officers about tagging, categorizing, and storing BWC footage. 4. Establish how supervisors’ access and use BWC footage for administrative investigations. 5. Assess the training requirements and how to highlight them in a BWC policy. 6. Recognize the nuances of when and how to notify citizens about BWC recording 7.
